Federal Reclamation Program Division (FRPD) The Federal Reclamation Programs Division’s (FRPD) primary responsibility is to administer the Federal Abandoned Mined Land (AML) emergency program in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Maryland, Tennessee, Michigan, Rhode Island and Georgia. These emergencies are the result of improperly reclaimed coal mines that occurred before passage of the Federal surface mining law. The most common types of emergencies are the result of coal mine subsidence, mine fires, or landslides. The FRPD is responsible for administering the Federal Reclamation High Priority Programs in Tennessee, Michigan and Georgia. These programs reclaim AML that are not as serious as emergency projects, but still are in need of being reclaimed. FRPD maintains two Mine Map Repositories, one in Green Tree, Pennsylvania, which maintains mine map information for the entire country, and one in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania., which has maps of the anthracite region in northeastern Pennsylvania. The FRPD provides procurement and contracting support for the entire Appalachian Region, and assists the agency in other Regions and Headquarters with procurement needs. The FRPD also provides various types of technical assistance in the area of AML reclamation. This includes the use of a borehole television camera, which provides the ability to view and record subsurface conditions in boreholes, mine shafts and underground mines. In order to provide the above services, the FRPD has on staff a cadre of specialists, which include engineers, physical scientists, realty specialists, appraisers, and contract specialists. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
